Lifestyle

I have created an intentionally nomadic and active lifestyle. Running and hiking are embedded in my daily routine. I have been road and trail running 25+ miles a week for 20 years. I have hiked 30+ miles monthly for 10 years, logging a total of 500+ hikes and 3500+ miles. I am a certified Wilderness First Responder who loves challenging backpack excursions, casual camping, offroading adventures, and even solo explorations (due to an obsession with shed hunting). I have traveled to 140+ cities including 55+ national parks and 30+ state parks.

When I’m not adventure traveling and exploring new destinations, my day-to-day life typically has me moving between three locations. These locations were selected to support the activities I love across all seasons but they also great investment properties that are easy to access, just a short scenic drive, which allows me to move between them at a high frequency throughout the year.

Kanab, UT

Kanab is small rural town on the southern border of Utah, a hub of adventure with endless hiking and offroading trails, 3 national parks, 5 national monuments, 2 state parks and Lake Powell all nearby. This is back country remote living in the high desert, immersed in nature and surrounded by red rock cliffs and green sage brush. I considered Kanab by home base, where my extensive outdoor gear collection and recreational vehicles live, including my Jeep 4×4, Airstream Travel Trailer, Teardrop Trailer, Can-Am Defender SXS, and Polaris RZR SXS. I volunteer regularly for The Wave patrol helping visitors with permitting and safety and as a Trail Ambassador for Grand Staircase’s conservation and stewardship programs.

Durango, CO

Durango is nestled in a valley of the San Juan Mountains, in the southwest corner of Colorado surrounded by national forest lands. I have a condo, just north of the city in the mountains. This location is across from Purgatory Mountain for easy snowboarding access and just north of Durango Hot Springs for recovery and relaxation. There are 5 national monuments, a national park, and the Animas River runs through the town, so there are countless reservoirs and alpine lakes, lending themselves to kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Durango city center is just 20 minutes away with all the big city essentials, entertainment, restaurants (check out my Durango restaurant guide), cultural activities, shops, and live music.

Seattle, WA

Seattle is a port city in northwest of Washington. My parents and sister/ brother-in-law/nephew live in the outer communities. I visit them every couple months and have a dedicated room in each of their homes. This location gives me access to all the benefits of a major city and a jumping off point for adventures in a new region, pacific northwest islands, and Canada.
